A snowflake is winter’s butterfly ~ unknown
Winter (win·ter )
Solstice (sol.stice)
Today marks the first official day of Winter in the northern hemisphere, although it feels as if it has been winter for a while now!! And guess what? The world did not end and zombies have not attacked! Although I have to admit the zombie side of things sounded fun. Maybe I’ve watched Shaun of The Dead too many times?! Winter can be a bit depressing. It’s dark and cold and sometimes it seems as if the sun may never come back again, but winter has its good points too. When else can you get away with snuggling up inside with a good book rather than working on the garden or washing the car? When else is it acceptable to hibernate and become a semi-hermit?!! And of course, without winter we wouldn’t enjoy Spring so much. See? Not so bad after all is it?! To show winter can be pretty, I’ve created is a Winter word art describing what I love about this time of year.
So, what do you like about winter? And what do you dread?!

I love winter. I love being able to snuggle down with good book and cup of tea and stay there for days. And cooking and baking – using the oven to warm the house.
I love books, blankets and naps! Nobody seems to care if you have afternoon naps in the winter – perfect!
If this is only the start of winter I’d love to know what all the snow the other week was about… practice?
Yep. Twas practice. It’s only gonna get worse! Although technically the days are getting longer now and we will start getting more daylight. We just won’t notice it for another 3 months or so. Sorry :/
Your word thingy makes me smile, and I love the snowflake is a butterfly quote! I like winter as long as it’s dry1 I hate rainy winter days! Cold, crisp ones where I can choose to wrap up warm or stay in with a book and a blanket are great, but rain – ugh! It is ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED to rain when I’m back in England next week (chances of that actually happening?!) …P.S. You’ve got red on you.
Well you flippin’ put a jinx on that didn’t you? 2012 has been the wettest year in the UK on record AND the wettest Christmas. Cheers!!
Ed: “Dire Straits?” Shaun: “Throw it.”
haha! Yes, I did get rather soggy while I was back! But, it was totally worth it! Hope you had a great non-christmas! Happy New Year!
errrrm, okay you posed the question “what do you like about winter” and as i scroll down to answer “books, blankets and naps” i see you’ve ALREADY WRITTEN IT! so eerie! you are my sister from another mister, for sure!
p.s. after a rather lengthy break from the online world i am back and looking forward to communicating with you more. you always leave such nice comments and i am so lazy with my technology. new years resolution, perhaps?
I couldn’t make it through winter without regular naps!! I get snuggly on the sofa, start reading and within an hour I’m asleep!
I’m terrible lately. I just can’t seem to get the energy together to get online and reply to comments, publish posts etc. My resolutions must include blogging and interacting more often!
What I love…I love that there are so many outdoor activities to keep the kids happy, active, and occupied. What I’m not so thrilled about…the darkness, feeling c-o-l-d ALL the time, and how much more effort everything requires.
Just want to thank you so much for your kind comments at my place…I’ve been such an absent blogger as of late, making comments received all that extra precious. Thank you!
Does it feel as if the darkness never goes away? Somedays I don’t get to experience any natural light at all and it’s sooo tiring!
I love your blog, it’s always filled with such lovely pictures and stories. But I no how you feel about being absent. There are always so many other things to do!
